About Me

Why I Became A Chiropractor

In 1992, I came across an intriguing article (click to view the article) about an Olympic water polo player, who was also a chiropractor along with nearly his entire family.

Little did I know that this article was the seed to what would grow into a long career.

After several trips to the library and extensive reading, I decided to study chiropractic because of its unique and vitalistic approach, which addresses a major underlying dysfunction, as opposed to treating and suppressing symptoms.

As one of the few drug-free health professions left, I am still amazed at the results our patients are able to achieve simply by improving the function of their nervous system.

There is also more science, research, and studies to validate chiropractic care than ever before. One of my purposes is to inspire more and more people in South Africa to realize more effective and enjoyable lives with the help of chiropractic.

Most people here are still quite unfamiliar with this profession, resulting in many struggling through life needlessly. Our health care system is currently designed to simply catch you when you fall, with little to no emphasis on truly preventing you from falling in the first place. As Thomas Edison once said, "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will instruct his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease."

Qualifications:

B.Sc. (1993, Vanderbilt University, USA)
D.C. (1997, Life University, USA)

Why Activator Methods?

While traditional chiropractic care remains one of the safest forms of modern health care, Activator Methods provides a gentler, less invasive, and more precise alternative. During my training, I was exposed to most of the innovative chiropractic techniques available and found Activator Methods to be the most effective, consistent, and safe for all patients, regardless of size or age. This system is one of the most researched techniques in chiropractic, with a proven track record of over 50 years. I received my advanced certification in 1995, even before graduating from chiropractic school.

I began my career as an intern for an excellent Activator chiropractor in Orlando, Florida and continue to practice using this technique solely with great success. Our office is also designed specifically for this technique, with four Activator Adjusting Tables, imported directly from the U.S., which optimizes the effectiveness of the spinal adjustments. Many patients are somewhat scared on their initial visit, but are pleasantly surprised and relieved that they can achieve great results with minimal intervention.

Why South Africa?

In 2000, after growing up in the U.S. for 20 years, I decided to come back to my birthplace just before our wedding here in South Africa. After quickly establishing a busy practice in the small town of Louis Trichardt, close to where my wife was sent to complete her community service as a medical doctor, I realized that there's a tremendous need for the service that I offer, while developing an appreciation for a simpler life. Even after moving to Centurion, I continued to go to Louis Trichardt once a month until 2003. While living far from my immediate family has been challenging, to say the least, I am continually gratified to see people flourish in their lives through the vital and unique service that I offer. Fortunately, my wife's family are nearby and I am able to visit my family fairly regularly.

I also feel connected to the nature we have here in South Africa, as it's one of the few places left on Earth that still has abundant birds, indigenous plant life, and roaming animals. Our leisure time is often spent outdoors, allowing us to reconnect with nature, the true civilization. My wife is also an integrative medical doctor (click here to visit her website), with her own private practice here in Centurion. We have the privilege of watching our two beautiful princesses blossom, which helps us to grow as well. Even after being back in South Africa for more than 18 years, I am still often asked by patients, "What are you doing here?" The answer is simple: "So I can help you!"
